Wells & water/ CALCULATOR

Household water demand

Estimate daily use and an explicit buffer-storage volume.

Include regular occupants.
Illustrative default: replace with metered use where possible.
Irrigation, treatment backwash or other uses.
Choose your planning scenario; not a universal recommendation.
Estimated daily demand

600 L/day

Illustrative usable storage

600 L

Average volume only. Peak flow, water quality, tank turnover, dead storage and emergency drinking-water needs are separate checks.

FROM ESTIMATE TO ACTION

Use the result, not just the number.

01

Derive use from a representative period

Record meter readings, elapsed days and occupancy. Convert m³ to litres before dividing: 4.2 m³ over 7 days for 4 residents gives 150 L per resident per day. This is an illustrative example, not a consumption standard; check seasonal use and guests separately.

02

Avoid counting additional use twice

Irrigation or backwash already included in the measured per-resident figure must not be added again. Separate these uses first, or leave additional daily use at zero. With 4 × 150 plus 100 L/day genuinely additional use, the model gives 700 L/day and 1400 L usable storage for 2 days.

03

Separate daily volume from system sizing

The selected days multiply the same daily demand, without allowing for refill or changing occupancy. The result is usable water volume, not a tank nameplate capacity. Peak simultaneous flow, unavailable bottom water, refill balance, water quality and turnover require separate checks; this is not an emergency drinking-water recommendation.
