Wells & water/ CALCULATOR

Pump head & electrical power

Combine lift, delivery pressure and friction in a first-pass pump calculation.

Delivery elevation minus pumping-water elevation.
Pressure required at the chosen delivery point.
Obtain from pipe and fitting calculations.
Check against the pump curve and available well yield.
Explicit estimate including motor and pump.
Total dynamic head

60.6 m

Estimated electrical input

0.45 kW

Water density 1,000 kg/m³; gravity 9.80665 m/s². Does not select a pump or establish starting power. Verify the pump curve at both required flow and head.

FROM ESTIMATE TO ACTION

Use the result, not just the number.

01

Define one delivery point

Use the elevation rise from the pumping water level to that point, not borehole depth or pump installation depth. Enter the required gauge pressure at the same point in bar. Estimate pipe, fitting and filter head losses at the entered flow; do not add drawdown again.

02

Confirm flow and head together

Find the required flow and calculated head together on the manufacturer’s pump curve. Maximum flow and shutoff head are different endpoints, not one operating point. Confirm the well’s supply with a pumping test; this calculation does not establish sustainable yield.

03

Check efficiency and starting demand

Use combined wire-to-water efficiency at the operating point, not motor efficiency alone. The kW result estimates steady electrical input, not shaft output or starting demand. Use manufacturer starting data and a qualified electrical design for a generator, cable or protection.
