Independent energy/ CALCULATOR

Pump electricity use and operating cost

Estimate electricity and cost from measured input power, daily run time and a chosen period.

Use measured electrical input or nameplate input, not hydraulic output.
Use controller hours or a timed representative measurement.
Choose a billing month, season or year.
Enter your local price per kWh in any one currency.
Pump operating time

60.0 h

Electricity used

66.0 kWh

Estimated electricity cost

13.20 currency units

Constant average input power during recorded run time. Starting energy, standby controls, variable-speed changes, power factor and tariff tiers are excluded unless already reflected in measurements and the entered tariff.

FROM ESTIMATE TO ACTION

Use the result, not just the number.

01

Match electrical input and meter scope

Enter electrical input in kW at the operating mode being estimated, not hydraulic output, shaft power, kVA or a controller percentage. Divide a value in W by 1000 before entry. Use documented data or a safely obtained meter reading; rated power need not equal actual input. If the meter includes controls or other loads, count that combined reading once, not again with the component powers.

02

Record on-time and calculate each mode

1.1 kW × 2 h/day × 30 days gives 60 operating hours and 66 kWh. These are example inputs, not typical consumption. Record actual running hours or cycles, excluding off-time. For different modes, calculate each separately and add energy: 1.1 kW × 2 h + 0.4 kW × 1 h = 2.6 kWh for that day. A speed percentage is not automatically the same percentage of electrical input.

03

Separate price from energy and pump performance

At an entered price of 0.20 per kWh, 66 kWh costs 13.20 in that currency. Zero price makes cost zero, not energy use. Treat fixed charges, tariff tiers and time bands separately. Standby or controls need separate accounting if absent from the measured power and runtime. This total does not confirm pump sizing, flow, pressure, safe operation or the benefit of shortening runtime.
