Insulation/ CALCULATOR

Air changes to ventilation airflow

Convert floor area, average ceiling height and a chosen air-change rate into continuous airflow.

Use only the connected volume served by this ventilation calculation.
Use total connected volume divided by total floor area: weight height by floor area, not room volume.
Use a value established from the applicable standard and the actual building—not a universal default.
Connected indoor volume

312.00 m³

Equivalent continuous airflow

156.00 m³/h

Equivalent continuous airflow

43.33 L/s

Air volume moved per day

3,744.00 m³/day

A single well-mixed connected volume and a constant equivalent air-change rate. Occupant demand, room-by-room supply and extract rates, local exhaust, infiltration, pressure balance, duct resistance and commissioning measurements remain separate design checks.

FROM ESTIMATE TO ACTION

Use the result, not just the number.

01

Use one consistent volume boundary

Measure floor area and clear height for the same connected spaces. For mixed heights, add the room volumes and divide by total floor area; do not weight height by room volume or apply the peak ceiling height everywhere. Exclude zones served by another system. If zones require different air-change rates, calculate each separately and add non-overlapping flows rather than averaging the rates.

02

Document the rate before comparing flows

Record the source and applicability of the chosen rate to this building and task. The example is not a universal ventilation requirement: 100 m² × 2.8 m = 280 m³; at 0.5 1/h the flow is 140 m³/h, or 38.89 L/s. At 1 1/h the same volume gives 280 m³/h. Changing the input rate changes the estimate; it does not establish which rate is required.

03

Separate daily volume from verified performance

140 m³/h × 24 h gives the displayed 3360 m³/day only at constant continuous flow. For 8 h at that flow, calculate 140 × 8 = 1120 m³ separately; the displayed daily total does not model that schedule or justify shorter operation. Compare measured supply and extract at the actual operating setting, filter condition and duct resistance with the room requirements. A catalogue maximum or this total is not a commissioning record.
